Pizzeria Upper Bergamo: where to taste a good pizza.

Large and thin, al metro or round, fragrant or soft, with the socalled “cornicione”, made with spelt or with the traditional dough.

For certain pizza has conquered tastes all over the world and when you are caught out by the desire to eat it, your istinct suggests to take the first train to Naples.

In the course of time it has continuous evolutions that upgrade it and rise it from simple dishes made with few ingredients as yeast, flour, oil and salt to absolut main dishes in the table.

Pizzeria Upper Bergamo? Luckily there are good pizzeria also in the Old part of Bergamo, where you can eat well satisfying different tastes and meeting different budgets.

One of the well-known restaurant is for sure Da Mimmo in Via Colleoni where you can taste pizzas made with raw materials protected by Slow Food, as instance pizza with stracchino cheese from Orobie Valleys, rosemary and lard from Bergamo or pizza with “Fiaschetto” tomatoes from Torre Guaceto and Caciocavallo Podolico from Basilicata. In March 2012 “Buongustai Bergamo” Club tributes “Mimmo” Amaddeo, who founded the restaurant in 1956, and it gives him the certificate of merit as the oldest and most appreciated pizzeria in Bergamo.

Also interesting is Il Circolino, not far from Piazza Vecchia, set in Vicolo Sant’Agata where the ancient Sant’Agata church during the high medieval Era stood. A place full of tradition but also young and cheerful where you can taste savory pizzas with local handcrafted beers.

Not so far, few steps from Piazza Vecchia there is the restaurant-pizzeria Da Franco. It offers typical dishes of Bergamo tradition but also a great variety of pizzas made with fresh ingredients and well baked in the wood-burning oven.

In Via Bartolomeo Colleoni there is Il Sole, restaurant-pizzeria furnished in a typical way, a garden for summer evening and a wide terrace facing the Old Center of the Upper Bergamo. You can find “Casonsei”, “Polenta Taragna” or a delicious pizza made with practice and with first quality ingredients and in the end the tasty home made desserts.

The restaurant-pizzeria San Vigilio was born in 1913 and first called Isola Bella. It offers several pizzas baked in the wood-burning oven besides typical dishes from Bergamo and from the Mediterranean cuisine, fresh pasta and home made desserts. You can reach the place by public transporters: bus line 1 ATB from the Lower City and then the San Vigilio Cable Car.

Do you prefer a toothsome pizza al trancio? Therefore you can stop at the Nessi bakery in Via Gombito, that makes many types of pizza from the classic Margherita to the one with fries.

In Via Bartolomeo Colleoni there is also Il Fornaio. It is difficult not to notice its shop window full of pizzas and focaccias, perfect for a gourmand break.

Pizzeria Upper Bergamo? Certainly addresses don’t lack for those who want to eat a good pizza in the beautiful Old City.
